Trump International Golf Links

Location: Aberdeen, Scotland
Project: New 18-hole golf course (with Martin Hawtree)

Trump International Golf Links in Scotland is one of the most highly regarded new golf courses built in recent times. It is a Martin Hawtree design, with Caspar Grauballe as lead designer.

Set on enormous sand dunes on the Aberdeenshire coastline, the brief was to produce a world-class course that follows the traditions of Scottish links golf, and could one day host a major championship.

The golf course design required extensive study of the site, and close work with environmental specialists so the course would be sensitively integrated into its landscape.

The resulting layout of two out-and-back nines is now considered among the very best courses in the world, with each hole providing a unique and strategic test for players, and the entire round an exhilarating experience from beginning to end.

Donald Trump wrote: “Caspar Grauballe is a dedicated and highly professional golf course architect and a master craftsman. He has the eye of an artist and at the same time the ability to create a spectacular course that looks natural in its environment.”

“He listens to ideas and gives honest and professional feedback on them. The feedback is always constructive and based on his strong experience combined with  his relentless quest for the optimum playability and appearance of the course.”

“Caspar will no doubt be one of his generation’s great golf course architects.”
